JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of administrative and field duties in violence prevention, violence awareness, and other related program areas and as applicable, in accordance with current grant and funding sources under the Injury Prevention Program within the Allentown Health Bureau. Duties include developing and maintaining a comprehensive violence prevention strategy for the City of Allentown, working with partner agencies, facilitating new partnerships resulting in an ongoing violence reduction task force, providing education and outreach to the community, collecting, analyzing, and reporting data to/from partner agencies, and participating in other related task forces or groups. The employee routinely acts independently to complete assignments with guidance of established policies and procedures.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect and analyze data collected by various partner agencies on violence in the City of Allentown and/or by City of Allentown residents and disseminate data to partner organizations.

  • Develop and implement a strategic community violence reduction plan for the City of Allentown that addresses determinants of violence through assessing neighborhoods and identifying safety and quality of life issues.

  • Work with the Allentown Police Department Community Outreach Unit (COU) to support existing efforts to reduce violence and enhance community engagement.

  • Engage and coordinate community partners in collaborative violence prevention efforts.

  • Enhance and support community partners and partnerships relating to violence prevention.

  • Perform administrative tasks as they pertain to collaborative violence prevention initiatives.

  • Obtain, track, record, and report deliverables in accordance with current and/or relevant grant funding requirements.

  • Schedules and conduct community education, outreach programs, and marketing campaigns regarding violence and violence-related topics.

  • Interacts with other City bureaus, County, State, and Federal agencies involved in public health and injury prevention.

  • Provide quality and effective customer service with courtesy and understanding to our customers, citizens and internal departments.

  • Available to respond to public health emergencies and assume the role designated for them in the public health emergency response plan.

  • Acquires, maintains and demonstrates the public health core competency.

  • Performs other duties as required.


  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Education and Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in or with public safety or human service agencies including law enforcement, first responders, violence prevention agencies, community outreach agencies, etc.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in injury prevention, violence prevention, public health, or related field desired

  • Advanced education completed towards the fields of injury prevention, violence prevention, public health, or related issues; or

  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


  • Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish required.

  • Knowledge of injury prevention principals, public safety laws, workplace safety rules and procedures and public health education techniques.

  • Knowledge of the use of computers in word processing, data compilation, analysis, and research.

  • Proficiency in the use and operation of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

  • Effective communication skills, including ability to develop and express ideas and opinions concisely, comprehensively, and clearly in oral and written form.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, government, professional and non-professional groups, and the public.

  • Ability to organize and manage time; ability to work independently to meet program objectives.

  • Ability to represent the Bureau at meetings and to chair committees as needed.

  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and present data to assess need

  • Possession of a valid driver's license required.

  • Daily use of a motor vehicle, computers, printers, photocopiers, phone, multimedia equipment (e.g., portable projectors, projection screens), and other electronic devices.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
