STARING PAY: $18.39/hour (DOQ)
SUMMARY
Working under the supervision of the Police Fleet and Technology Lieutenant, this position is responsible the installation, repair and maintenance of emergency lighting systems, radar, video, mobile data computer systems and special equipment for police and related emergency vehicles and trucks. Designs, modifies, and fabricates related electrical systems and repairs/replaces malfunctioning electrical components. Provides related technical assistance to assigned supervisory staff. This position will be required to work overtime as needed by the department as well as shifts including evenings, weekends, holidays and during inclement weather. This position is considered weather essential personnel.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures the proper operation of the police emergency vehicle equipment and electronics devices used by the department including proper installation, programing, monitoring, repair, maintenance, alignment and integration of communication and data equipment. This includes handheld equipment or mobile radios and accessories, video recording systems, mobile data computer (MDC), global positioning, and RADAR speed measuring systems.
- Maintains accountability of departmental property and equipment including parts and equipment needed for repairs and/or installation police emergency vehicles as well as other equipment and inventory maintained by the Police Fleet and Technology Division.
- Upfitting, adding and removing vehicles and equipment from service.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and experience in electronics installation, basic automotive electrical repair or modification and installation of related electrical components and equipment. Must be able to pass a Texas Criminal Information Center (TCIC)/National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) background check that includes fingerprinting. Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Basic knowledge of electronics.
- Basic knowledge of electronic equipment installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to operate a multi-meter (DVOM) and other electronic troubleshooting equipment.
- Ability to read and utilize an electrical schematic.
- Ability to operate computers for data entry and communication.
- Ability to operate computer applications, such as system programming software and system administration software.
- Ability to operate and repair small/light equipment, such as power tools.
- Ability to operate small office equipment
