Job Title:
Part-Time Municipal Playground Inspector
Job Summary:
The Municipal Playground Inspector is responsible for inspecting, evaluating, and documenting the condition and safety of playground equipment and surrounding areas in municipal parks. The position ensures compliance with safety standards, identifies potential hazards, and recommends necessary repairs or replacements. This is a part-time position that requires a flexible schedule, including occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular inspections of playground equipment, surfacing, and surrounding areas to ensure compliance with safety standards (e.g., ASTM, CPSC, and ADA).
- Identify and document hazards, wear and tear, or other issues that could impact safety or usability.
- Generate detailed inspection reports, including photographs and recommendations for maintenance or repair.
- Monitor compliance with municipal, state, and federal safety regulations related to playgrounds.
- Collaborate with maintenance crews and contractors to address identified issues.
- Maintain records of inspections, maintenance activities, and safety certifications.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training or certifications in playground safety is preferred (e.g., CPSI - Certified Playground Safety Inspector).
- Experience in maintenance, safety inspection, or a related field is a plus.
- Strong understanding of playground safety standards and guidelines.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Basic proficiency in computer applications for generating reports.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Working Conditions:
- Work involves physical activities such as walking, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders.
- Regular travel between playground sites within the municipality is required.
- Work may occasionally require lifting equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Skills:
- CPSI certification or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- Familiarity with playground design and surfacing materials.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for identifying repair needs.
