STARTING PAY: $9.50/HR
SUMMARY
Under general supervision, assist with planning preparation and delivery of recreation programs, education programs, special events, camps, and public programs for the Parks and Recreation Department.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Will mainly be based at a certain park in the summer afternoons to help run Amarillo Afternoon Adventures Club. Will be working with children and follow planned activities.
- Keep recreation hut clean and organized with everything off the ground and in its proper labeled area.
- Should be able to consistently exhibit competency, good judgment, and self-control when working with participants.
- Write and implement daily activity plans. Provide activities for each group according to the Participant’s ages, interests, and abilities. The activities must be appropriate to the Participants’ health, safety, and well-being. The activities also must be flexible and promote the Participants’ emotional, social, and mental growth.
- Should be able to lead, instruct, and motivate individuals or groups in exercise activities, including cardiovascular exercises (exercises for the heart and blood circulation), strength training, and stretching. They work with people of all ages and skill levels. Curriculum planned or provided.
- Flexible schedule to assist special events.
- Must be willing to complete training and attend regular staff meetings and trainings.
- Engage in creative, age-appropriate, and responsibly managed activities with program participants.
- Provide assistance in educational presentations.
- Must relate to participants and staff with courtesy, respect, tolerance, and patience.
- Follow department policies and procedures to safeguard the health, safety, and well being of all program participants and patrons.
- Identifies needs for programs and program changes
- Implements programs.
- Interacts with customers to provide exceptional service, receive complaints, suggestions, and questions, provides information and assistance as requested.
- Tracks attendance of all classes monthly and sends report to supervisors.
- May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of special events or programming.
- Assists with set up and take down of different gym apparatus such as volleyball standards/ nets, as well as bleacher placement as needed or directed.
- Must be able to demonstrate initiative, and think, work, and make independent decisions based on sound judgment.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines
- Must be age 15 or older.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must complete eight (8) hours of childcare training per calendar year. Training must be completed prior to program start dates and completed on an annual basis.
- Prior experience teaching an array of group classes would be beneficial.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
- Should be familiar with the Standards of Care as adopted by the City Council.
Skill in:
- Interacting with the public tactfully and professionally.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- License and Certification Requirements or a valid Texas Driver’s License is recommended or must have reliable transportation. Must be CPR, First Aid and AED certified within thirty (30) days of hire date.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have reliable transportation. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds consistently, and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays year-round. We will work around a reasonable school schedule. Dependability and reliability are a must.
