What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Health Technician (Immunizations) position at City of Amarillo?
SALARY: $15.00 per hour
SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Immunization Program Manager and supports the day-to-day activities of the Immunization Program at Amarillo Public Health. The position assists with administrative and clinical aspects of the Immunization clinics and is responsible for maintaining public health program files and databases.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Cordially greets and interacts with patients at the front receptions desk.
- Provides excellent customer service to patients in public health clinic, ensuring all paperwork is completed and documentation is presented.
- Registers new patients into the electronic medical record system and orders labs, tests, vaccines, as needed.
- Accurately enters data into the electronic medical records system.
- Screens immunization records to determine vaccines needed.
- Provides administrative support for the program.
- Maintains public health clinic records.
- Provides cross coverage at the reception desk for other clinics when available.
- Participate in and attends team meetings, department meetings, in-service training and other related activities as needed.
- Participates in public health preparedness responses.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
This position requires a High School diploma or GED. Reception experience in a clinic setting preferred. Bilingual preferred. Valid Texas Driver’s License, reliable transportation with proof of current vehicle insurance, required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to offer excellent customer service.
- Ability to learn adult and child vaccine schedules.
- Strong verbal and written communication skill.
- Knowledge of the HIPAA Privacy Act.
- Knowledge of the Public Health ten essential functions.
- Skills to use a computer with Microsoft Office for electronic medical record data entry, word processing and email communication purposes.
- Skills to operate small office equipment, including a multi-function copy machine, fax machine and multi-line telephone systems.
- Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
- Ability to handle confidential information in an appropriate manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
- Ability to travel out of town for trainings and seminars.
- Ability to work an after-hours schedule as required.
- Ability to drive to off-site locations as needed.
HOURS: Monday thru Thursday, 40 hours per week with the ability to work additional hours as needed.
