SUMMARY
Install, construct, and erect all traffic signals related items. Performs difficult skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control devices; does related work as required. Employees in this class work as lead technicians and may supervise Utility Workers. This work is performed under the supervision of the Traffic Signal Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build forms and pour traffic sign bases;
- Set forms; pour and finish concrete for traffic controller bases;
- Erect traffic signal poles;
- Install vehicle loops for detectors;
- Trench, bore, and install conduit and pull-boxes;
- Pull wire through conduit and poles;
- Perform P.M. on intersection pull boxes;
- Be familiar with reading intersection blue prints.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent, and a Valid Texas Driver’s License and obtain a CDL with in 1 year, must obtain Work-zone and Traffic Control and IMSA Traffic Signals within 2 years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to use a computer for work processing and spreadsheet purposes.
- Thorough understanding of general office and filing procedures
- Ability to exercise professional telephone etiquette and take accurate messages.
- Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the work
- Ability to lead in and supervise the work of Utility Worker
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including a calculator, copier, and multi-line telephone system.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks accurately and efficiently on a consistent basis.

Also requires the ability to make rational decisions and perform repetitive motions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee’s work is conducted both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions and in a dynamic environment that requires the employee to be sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needs. This position is considered weather essential personnel.
Works, Monday-Thursday, 7:00am-5:30pm.
