What are the responsibilities and job description for the TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR I position at City of Amarillo?
SUMMARY
Under indirect supervision on an assigned shift, participates in the operation and quality control of a Wastewater Treatment Plant. Responsible for the quality of effluent as set by Federal, State, and City regulations. Shift work and weekends.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Makes periodic rounds of the plant to assure that the plant process is operating properly.
- Monitors and records the flow through the plant.
- Collects samples for laboratory analysis.
- Performs standard tests for operations control.
- Maintains records for operations control of the plant (every 2 hours).
- Checks all pumps, motors, engines, and blowers and associated equipment.
- Fills out maintenance request forms on equipment not operating properly.
- Reports the status of the plant to the supervisor.
- Maintains flow distribution to; industrial, equalization, digestion, sludge, etc.
- Removes debris from clarifier as needed.
- Communicates to the oncoming operator the plant status and any hazards.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of one year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant. Must be able to attain a TCEQ Class D Wastewater Treatment Certification within the first year of employment. . Valid Texas Driver’s License required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems.
- Ability to operate computers for data entry and word processing.
- Ability to operate and make minor repairs to small hand tools, small pieces of equipment, PH meters, analytical balances and CL2 safety equipment.
- Ability to safely drive a pick-up truck.
