What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounts Receivable Technician position at City of Americus?
The purpose of the Accounts Receivable Technician within the Finance Department is to execute all accounts receivable functions for the City, ensuring accurate recording and timely collection of receivables in accordance with applicable regulations and financial policies.

- Monitors, prepares, verifies, and processes all accounts receivable transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Prepares and issues invoices for services rendered by the City, ensuring billing accuracy and proper account coding.
- Collects and records incoming payments via mail, in person, and electronic means, posts receipts to the appropriate accounts.
- Reconciles customer accounts and follows up on delinquent accounts, sending notices and coordinating collections activity as necessary.
- Prepares daily cash reports and deposits for incoming revenue.
- Maintains historical records by scanning and filing all documents according to the City’s record retention policy.
- Assists internal departments and external customers regarding billing questions, payment arrangements, and other related concerns.
- Works collaboratively with other Finance staff to ensure accurate month-end and year-end reporting.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Education: Requires an associate degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or closely related field.
Experience: Requires two years’ experience in government accounting, accounts receivable or closely related experience.
Required Certifications and Licenses Valid in the State of Georgia.
