What are the responsibilities and job description for the Miracle League Activity Director position at City of Ames?
The City of Ames Parks & Recreation Department is accepting applications for a Miracle League Activity Director. The Miracle League of Ames is a baseball league for youth and adult participants with disabilities. Candidates interested in this opportunity can expect to work Saturday mornings from 8 AM - 11 AM at Inis Grove Park, May - June, with an opportunity to extend employment through the fall season.
Activity Directors are directly responsible for officials and scorekeepers, directly accountable to the Recreation Manager, and adjunctly accountable to the Recreation Superintendent and the Director of Parks & Recreation.
Strong knowledge of the sport and rules.
Skill in being organized, dependable, and reliable.
Ability to communicate with youth and parents effectively.
Ability to provide a confident and positive attitude.
Ability to understand, appreciate and embody the City of Ames Core Values.
Ability to maintain an exceptional level of safety.
Ability to maintain a professional appearance (staff shirt w/ appropriate athletic shorts or pants) at all times while on site.
Ability to maintain a professional demeanor (calm and courteous) at all times while on site.Selection Process:
The selection process consists of an evaluation of education and experience, interview, and completion of a criminal background check, which includes a sex offender registry check. All candidates will be notified by email of their application status.

- Complete initial set-up and take down of the facility.
- Ensure that all playing environments are safe.
- Enforce all procedures and rules in place at all facilities/locations.
- Audit officials work performance, such as making calls.
- Provide preventive officiating when necessary.
- Take appropriate actions to keep the environment fun and enjoyable for all parties.
- Handle game issues so officials and players can continue game (i.e. behavior issues).
- Must be at least 17 years of age.
- Previous experience preferred.
