What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Slide Attendant - Furman Aquatic Center position at City of Ames?
The City of Ames Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for Furman Aquatic Center Water Slide Attendants for the 2025 Summer Season!
Under general supervision of the Aquatics Manager, the Water Slide Attendant's primary responsibility is to provide supervision and policy enforcement of park water slides, tube shack, and deep-water tests.
Candidates interested in this opportunity can expect to work a varying schedule late May through early September with training starting early May.
Water Slide Attendants are directly accountable to the Shift Leaders, Recreation Coordinator/Assistant, and the Aquatics and Activities Manager, and adjunctly accountable to the Recreation Superintendent and the Director of Parks & Recreation.

Working Conditions:
The selection process consists of an evaluation of education and experience, an interview, and completion of a criminal background check, which includes a sex offender registry check. All candidates will be notified by email of their application status.

- Provide helpful, positive and friendly service at all times.
- Maintain a respectable, professional appearance at all times.
- Respond to patron questions and comments.
- Supervise patrons and ensure compliance of safety rules, practices and procedures in effort to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Respond quickly to emergencies and perform appropriate Emergency Action Plan procedures in accordance with department guidelines and policies.
- Report any water slide safety concerns or unsafe conditions to the direct supervisor.
- Complete cleaning or maintenance duties as assigned.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and related activities.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Previous experience is preferred but not required.
- American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED certification required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to swim.
- Ability to work a variety of flexible hours, including days, evenings and weekends.
- Ability to complete repetitive tasks with a high level of consistency and quality.
- Ability to quickly adjust work energy level/speed to changing work volume.
- Ability to work as a team player and take directions from the Shift Leaders and Aquatics Manager.

Working Conditions:
- Work long hours in the sun with extreme temperatures.
- Work hours are generally between 11:00 am – 9:00 pm.
