Responds to customer trouble calls. Participates in the design, engineering, configuration, documentation, and maintenance of the City of Anacortes Municipal Fiber Network (MFN) network architecture and network elements. Interfaces with outside vendors and consultants for matters related to the network architecture and network elements. Maintains network configuration records. Monitors network performance levels.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Work on a team performing new customer activations.Respond to customer trouble calls with telephone calls, emails, and site visits.Monitor and maintain primary and backup connectivity between network and outsourced network management/monitoring resources.Monitor and maintain local instance / display of network status and performance driven by outsourced network management service.Maintain equipment configuration archives.Recommend prudent equipment spares levels.Participate in evaluation of technologies, equipment and vendors.Maintain systematic standards for network and circuit documentation.Participate in network maintenance activities.Troubleshoot and resolve network performance issues and/or outages. Develop, document and maintain processes and procedures for troubleshooting issues.Interface with ARIN for City’s Municipal Fiber Network’s Autonomous System Number, IPv6 addresses, IPv4 addresses and any other ARIN matter. Manage and document IPv4 and IPv6 address spaces. Manage customer Domain Name System resource record requirements.Prepare and archive periodic overall and customer-specific bandwidth usage reports.Participate in periodic staff meetings.Work in office, out of doors and at customer locations. Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance. Be available during after-hours and weekends. Be available during outages until resolved. Be available during natural disasters & network outages and respond to the needs of a 24/7/365 service provider operation.

LEVEL OF AUTHORITY: Is responsible for sound judgment, thoroughness, and competence, where failure to perform effectively and efficiently could have serious impact on municipal operations, public relations, MFN revenues and the efficient use of resources. Makes recommendations to management based on knowledge of networking principles, state of the MFN network and vendors’ equipment capabilities.WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office, meeting room, outdoor and customer premise environments where noise and frequent interruptions are often present. Work is often performed under the stress associated with the need to meet inflexible deadlines.PHYSICAL: Work is performed in an office, meeting room, outdoor and customer premise environments where noise and frequent interruptions are often present. Work requires reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, normal range of hearing and visual acuity, eye/hand coordination and manipulation skills to operate a variety of office equipment, computers and telephone, as well as the ability to sit for extended periods of time and access all areas of the facility and customer premises including stairs. Work is often performed under the stress associated with the need to meet inflexible deadlines. Position requires hearing, seeing, talking and repetitive motions of hands and wrists. Frequent sitting or standing. Must be able to push, pull, or lift ten pounds and carry twenty pounds.
