Incumbent serves as Station Person A for the Anderson Municipal Light and Power Department and is responsible for the maintenance of operations circuit breakers, transformers, and switchboards.
DUTIES:
Maintains effective operations of circuit breakers, transformers, and switchboards.
Erects steel and/or aluminum and assists in moving it into place.
Installs and effectively maintains substation equipment.
Assists in training apprentices.
Operates assigned vehicle and drives to any district service location as needed.
Performs duties in accordance with the safety rules and practices as stated in the Utility Safety Manual.
Maintains equipment, tools, and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Operates a variety of power tools and equipment.
Performs similar or less skilled duties as required.
On 24-hour call for emergency situations.
Performs related duties as required.
I. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Thorough knowledge of Anderson Light and Power transmission and distribution systems and all feeder circuits.
Working knowledge of all switching procedures in substations.
Ability to climb and handle self safely on substation structures and equipment.
Ability to use a variety of tools including, but not limited to, power hand tools, test equipment, hot-line tools, and switching tools of all kinds.
Must have successfully completed AML&P or recognized apprentice program.
Ability to train, supervise, and direct apprentice employees.
Ability to maintain operation of substation equipment such as circuit breakers, transformers, and switchboards.
Skilled in the installation, termination, splicing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the fiber optic network.
Ability to thermally scan and interpret the results of electrical equipment and connections.
Must be a Class A Station Person.
Ability to legally operate all assigned vehicles.
Possession of a valid Federal Commercial Driver’s License with proper endorsements and demonstrated safe driving record.
Ability to effectively perform all essential duties of the position.
II. RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent performs repairs and maintenance of circuit breakers, transformers, and switchboards according to accepted practices and principles of electronics, exercising independent judgment to select the best methods or techniques to achieve the desired results. Tasks involve care and skill to prevent personal injury or damage to tools and work is performed with minimal supervision.
III. PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Incumbent is required to do some heavy lifting, climbing, stretching, bending, pulling, pushing, and working with arms overhead for long periods of time on substation structures and equipment.
IV. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Incumbent performs most duties with considerable exposure to all kinds of weather. Working around high voltage lines poses a potentially hazardous situation. Considerable risk is involved due to the nature of the tools and equipment used.
