Location: Angleton Recreation Center
FLSA Status: Seasonal Part-time, Non-Exempt
Average Hours: 40 hours per week; Mon-Fri
Hourly Rate: $12.00
Staff Training Dates: May (official dates and times TBD)
Camp Dates: June 2 to August 1, Monday-Friday from 7:30 AM – 5:30PM

 

JOB SUMMARY

Assist with day camp activities for children and perform related tasks as required. Supervise day camp and interact with campers, participants, and their parents, and provide indoor and outdoor enrichment programs. Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants and perform other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regular and timely attendance at work.
  • Maintain a positive atmosphere for children through camp activities.
  • Responsible for leading or assisting with camp activities.
  • Actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
  • Be a role model to campers, participants, and staff in your attitude and behavior.
  • Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members.
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of program activities for campers within the mission and outcomes.
  • Ensures camp activities conform to the City and Angleton ISD guidelines
  • Conduct various recreation activities and crafts as given on the daily or weekly schedule.
  • Properly supervise campers at all times.
  • Provide supervision for campers while campers are transported to and from camp or during scheduled field trips off site.
  • Attending pre-camp training and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to supervisor.
  • Provide assistance and information to campers and parents regarding programs, activities, and events.
  • Arrange equipment, supplies, chairs, and tables in designated rooms or other areas for scheduled games and programs.
  • Demonstrate proper methods of equipment storage and cleaning to safeguard facilities and equipment.
  • Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested.
  • Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers and participants in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury)
  • Must be able to manage children aged seven to thirteen years of age in a disciplined and friendly nature.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING (Certification/Licensure):

The preferred way to obtain the minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below. The city reserves the right to allow substitutions in the event that a candidate or incumbent exceeds requirements in one area but may be deficient in another.

 

Education and Experience

 

  • High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or currently enrolled in high school.
  • A minimum of one (1) summer of experience in a day camp or playground setting is preferred.
  • Experience working with children, preferred.

 

Special Licenses, Certifications, and Designations

  • Valid, Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or the ability to obtain during staff training.

The person in this position is required to frequently stand; use their hands and digits to manipulate objects; bend, twist, stoop, crouch, crawl; use a personal computer; talk on the phone and radio, and occasionally be required to sit; lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
