The City of Ankeny is currently seeking individuals to fill our 2025 seasonal lifeguard positions in the Aquatics Division for the Parks and Recreation Department.

Starting salary is $14.50/hour
Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
Ankeny Aquatic Centers will be open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

- Guarding swimming areas and observing swimmers to ensure safety.
- May perform rescue duties as needed.
- Enforce all safety rules and regulations within pool facilities in accordance with department guidelines and policies.
- Assist with cleaning duties and maintenance as required.
- Must be able to work a variety of flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and related activities.
- Prevent accidents through proper supervision and consistent rule enforcement.
- Respond quickly to emergencies in and out of the water.
- Report unsafe conditions to the Manager or Head Guard.
- Complete any cleaning or maintenance duties as assigned.
- Maintain a respectable appearance at all times.
- Reflect a positive and friendly attitude.
- Report any water clarity problems/or alarms to the Aquatic Center Manager.
- Must be at least 15 years old.
- Current certifications in the American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and AED. *Training course options may be available for those interested.
- Able to take directions from Pool Manager or Head Guard.
- Able to work flexible schedules including evenings and weekends as assigned.
- Effective interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution skills.
- Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.

- Able to work as a team player with other staff members.
- Ability to stand, walk and kneel in the performance of assigned tasks.
- Must be sighted.
- Must be able to hear normal conversation.
- Must be able to speak clearly at normal rate conversation.
- Must keep regular and reliable attendance at work.

- Outdoor setting.
- Must be adaptive to all weather conditions.
