The City of Ankeny is accepting applications for a fulltime position of Utilities Supervisor – Wastewater Division in the Municipal Utilities Department. This person will report to the Wastewater Superintendent and performs under limited supervision to coordinate, supervise, and participate in the overall operations and maintenance of the wastewater pumping stations, sewer collection systems, and perform related duties as required.
Starting salary range for this position is $84,527.00 - $97,852.00 annually depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Graduation from high school or an equivalent and seven years of increasingly responsible experience involving the operations, repair, and maintenance of wastewater treatment or collection systems and all related appurtenances. Must possess a Grade III Wastewater Treatment Operator Certification issued by the State of Iowa or a Grade III Collection System Operator Certification issued by the Iowa Water Environment Association. Shall be able to obtain a Grade IV Collection System Operator certification within three years of hire date. Shall possess and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) Class B with airbrakes issued by the State of Iowa. Tanker endorsement may be required.
Must have a working knowledge of GIS and Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Possess or be able to successfully complete the Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP) within one year of hire. May be required to obtain mobile crane operator certification.
Must have the abilities to establish and maintain effective working relations with others as well as to assist in the supervision and training of subordinate employees.

Personal
Each year on July 1, fulltime employees shall receive 32 hours. The personal leave must be used on or before June 30th of the following year.

Sick
8 hours per month after the first 30 days.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists Superintendent in the supervision of and participates in the operations, maintenance, and repair of the wastewater pumping stations, wastewater collection systems, storm water conveyance system, and wastewater facilities. Performs related work as directed.
- Makes routine inspections of wastewater facilities to ensure operational staff is properly operating and maintaining equipment. Reviews and updates operational worksheets and logs for completeness and indicators of potential problems.
- Directs, assists, or instructs operations personnel in determining causes of problems with equipment; in performing and completing more complex tasks; and in completing other than routine projects throughout all wastewater facilities.
- Coordinates and schedules service and repairs performed by outside contractors and ensures work is completed per specifications. Contacts equipment manufacturer representatives on problem maintenance issues and orders replacement parts and equipment as necessary.
- Assists Superintendent in prioritizing projects, making personnel assignments, and in making budget recommendations for staffing, equipment, and proactive system maintenance considerations.
- Assists in all routine and technical personnel training activities including safety related issues and serves on the city safety committee as directed.
- Responds to complaints or inquiries from the public as soon as possible. Ensures all customer service activities are completed professionally and as scheduled.
- Inspects construction sites to help ensure the accuracy of construction activities.
- Assists in directing the activities of the division in the absence of the Superintendent.
- Maintains the department’s geographic information system (GIS).
- Maintains the WinCan software and data
- Review and approve time off, work schedules and payroll forms.
- Complete annual performance evaluations of all employees within the division.
