What are the responsibilities and job description for the PERMIT TECHNICIAN position at City of Anna, Texas?
Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to provide neighbor service and perform typing, data-entry, clerical and filing duties for the Building Division of the Development Services department. Position is also responsible for answering telephone calls, providing information regarding departmental programs, services, preparing and typing documentation, entering data into computer, maintaining files and records, and processing departmental mail and documentation. This position implements the department's permitting process, while providing support to department staff and other city offices and operations.
Basic: 10-Key, Accounting, Alphanumeric Data Entry, Contact Management, Database, Spreadsheet, Word Processing/Typing is required
Must possess a valid Class "C" license when hired.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check and MVR check.
International Code Council Certification as a Permit Technician within one (1) year of employment
Experience with SmartGov permitting software and ICC Permit Technician Certification is preferred.
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.USE OF MACHINES, EQUIPMENT AND/OR COMPUTERS
Regular use of complex machines and equipment (desktop/laptop computer and software, road and production machines and equipment, driver's license/cdl, etc.)

- Provide coverage for the department phone lines and front counter; seek to provide information as requested and seek to solve any neighbor complaints or direct neighbors to appropriate staff or department.
- Serve as the first point of contact for neighbors to aid with building permit policies and procedures.
- Effectively communicates departmental information; answer questions as first point of contact for customers; process documents, permit applications, and deposits; answer questions within scope of authority and training.
- Receive and review building application for customers; assess scope of project and relevant permit requirements; educate neighbors regarding necessary permits and general code compliance of proposed projects; track and process all residential, swimming pool, fence, and miscellaneous permits.
- Responsible for the registration and validation of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical licenses for each subcontractor working within the City.
- Collect fees and issues receipts; balance and reconcile receipts to monies collected at the end of each business day.
- Perform data entry functions by keying data into computer system: enter, retrieve, review, or modify data in computer database; verify accuracy of entered data and makes corrections.
- Maintain file system of various files/records for the department: prepare files, organize documentation, and file documents in designated order; retrieve or replace files; shred or destroy confidential or obsolete documents.
- Provide general technical support to the Building Official, the Plans Examiner and the Building Inspection Staff.
- Comply with all written City policies and procedures.
- Adhere to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
