Job Summary
INTERNAL ONLY
Under the general direction of the Commander of the Operations Division of the Annapolis Police Department, the CCTV Monitor will primarily operate and monitor the CCTV system for suspicious, threatening, and/or criminal activity. Upon detection of activity, the monitor will notify dispatch or predetermined police officers for further action. The monitor will listen to police activity on the radio and will observe activity if in camera view. The monitor will maintain an activity log and will bookmark any video that may be of evidentiary value. At the beginning of each shift, the monitor will check all cameras for proper operation and will notify the contractor of any malfunctions. The monitor will also be responsible for video retrievals; certifications and submissions of recovered video evidence; courtroom testimony in related cases; act as the department’s custodian of video record; subpoena compliances; electronic device extractions; all other duties as assigned. The monitor will abide by the rules and regulations in the Policy and the Procedural manual.
Essential Job Functions
Work involves the monitoring of the police department’s CCTV system. The CCTV monitor also verifies all cameras and recording equipment are functioning properly. The monitor will make proper notifications if any equipment is not functioning properly. The monitor will search recordings and bookmark requested video. CCTV monitor should be able to recognize suspicious and illegal activity and report the activity to officers in the field. The monitor may testify in court.

Physical ability: Ability to operate standard office equipment including a copier, computer, fax machine, etc; ability to reach into file drawers in standard 4 drawer cabinet. Ability to regularly sit at a desk or table; frequently walk, stand or stoop; regularly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 pounds; work for sustained periods of time maintaining concentrated attention to detail.
Visual ability: Effectively operate standard office equipment, view monitors, ability to read and write reports, correspondence, manuals etc., ability to distinguish colors.
Hearing ability: Sufficient to hold conversation with other individuals in person, over the telephone or a departmental radio.
Speaking ability: Sufficient to communicate effectively with other individuals in person and over a telephone.
Freedom from health disorders which would interfere with performance of duties as described.
