Job Summary
The Recreation Leader II - Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing specialized therapeutic recreation programs that meet the diverse needs of individuals with physical, emotional, cognitive, or developmental disabilities. This position requires leadership skills, expertise in therapeutic recreation, and a commitment to fostering inclusive community programming within the Recreation and Parks Department.

Essential Job Functions
- Develop, plan, and lead therapeutic recreation programs tailored to the needs of individuals with disabilities and their families.
- Assess participants’ needs and interests to design programs that align with their abilities, goals, and therapeutic objectives.
- Supervise, train, and mentor part-time staff, volunteers, and interns to ensure the effective delivery of inclusive recreation programs.
- Coordinate with caregivers, healthcare professionals, and other community resources to provide comprehensive support for participants.
- Monitor program outcomes and maintain accurate documentation, including progress reports, attendance, and participant feedback.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to therapeutic recreation services, including ADA requirements.
- Maintain certifications and stay updated on best practices in therapeutic recreation through ongoing professional development.
- Promote and market therapeutic recreation programs through community outreach, presentations, and social media platforms.
- Assist in budget preparation, including program supplies and resources.
- Perform other duties as assigned to enhance recreational services for the community.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Administration, or a related field.
- Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in therapeutic recreation or related programming, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
- Knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles, techniques, and interventions.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to transport program supplies and participants, if required.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with diverse populations, including children, adults, and seniors with disabilities.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish commonly spoken in the community.
- Proficiency in CivicRec and Microsoft Office Suite.
