Job Summary : Under the supervision of the assigned supervisor, employee performs a range of tasks and duties associated with the effective and efficient operation of the Parks and Recreation department. These tasks and duties include, but are not limited to, operating light-duty equipment such as zero turn mowers, tractors, and tractor-mounted mowers, upkeep of grounds, recreational facilities and grounds maintenance with turf and shrubs. The employee receives specific detailed instructions from supervisor. Work is performed under established procedures with frequent inspections during progress with a final inspection of completed work. Employee performs routine maintenance inspections on assigned equipment, notifies supervisor of equipment failures, and may assist with repairs. This is an entry-level job in the equipment operator job family. This job is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to a pre-employment background check and random drug screens.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION : Operates Light Equipment. Employee operates light equipment used to support and carry out Division projects and tasks. Drives and operates equipment such as light-duty equipment such as zero turn mowers, tractors, and tractor-mounted mowers. Loads and unloads equipment. Monitors all equipment for needed maintenance and repairs; performs light maintenance for equipment. Ensures assigned vehicles and equipment are properly fueled. Reports the need for equipment repairs to supervisor. Performs light maintenance on equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION : Operates Hand Tools. Employee uses and operates a variety of hand tools to accomplish work tasks and assignments. Operates hand tools such as saws, power hand tools and other hand-operated tools. Maintains hand tools on a scheduled basis.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTION : Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.

Ability to use hand tools and equipment. Ability to use personal protective equipment as required. Ability to work independently or part of a work group. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to push carts, carry trashcans, and other equipment. Ability to climb ladders. Ability to drive.
Minimum Qualifications : Possess a high school diploma or GED. Minimum of six (6) months of work experience using and operating hand and power tools; six (6) months of grounds maintenance experience; or any combination of education, training and experience. Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen.
Physical Demands : The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, operating heavy equipment, lifting heavy objects over 50 lbs., crouching, or crawling in restricted areas.
Work Environment : The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., working at great heights under extreme weather conditions, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
