What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Inspector position at City of Apple Valley?
Position requiring knowledge, skills and training to perform activities assigned to the Public Works Building Inspections Division. This position assists with routine building inspections associated with State Building Codes and recordkeeping related to building permits.High School graduation or equivalent.
One year of experience in building construction trades and or previous municipal inspection experience.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, directly, honestly, respectfully, and in a professional manner with all employees, the general public and elected officials.
Valid Driver's License and good driving record.
Ability to perform physical tasks encountered during inspections at constructions sites, including ladders and walking over rugged terrain. Ability to drive a vehicle. Abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
PREFERRED:
Successful completion of two or more Building Inspection Technology courses in building construction or construction management.
College, vocational, trade school diploma or equivalent education related to building construction.
Experience with the construction of building, mechanical and plumbing systems.
Building Official Limited License.
This position reports to Building Official.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, Days. Maximum 40 hours per week, not to exceed 6 months. Hours are 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Anticipated assignment dates, 6 months from date of hire.
Pay rated dependent on qualifications.
Offer of employment contingent on successful background check.
- Assists with building code inspections for residential roofing, water heaters, water softeners, windows, decks and siding under the guidance of the City's Chief Building Official.
- Assists building inspectors with commercial plan reviews and construction inspections.
- Assist front desk staff with phone calls, scheduling of inspections, and answering general code questions for the public.
- Maintain accurate records of all permits issued, inspections made, and other actions taken to implement conformance to code and ordinance requirements.
- Perform field inspections to ensure that construction, alteration, and demolition work being done complies with the State Building Code and City ordinances.
- Investigate building complaints and take the appropriate action to resolve questions arising from these complaints or refers them to the Building Official.
- Keep the Building Official informed as to current developments. Make observations and recommendations when needed.
- Other duties as assigned to assist with fluctuating workloads within the Building Inspections Division.
