What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Recreation Intern position at City of Apple Valley?
Coordinate, administer, and direct all elements of various Recreation Programs, Special Events, Field Trips, various facilities, and other programming in Apple Valley.Provide planning, promotion/marketing, and coordination of recreation programs that include, but are not limited to, open gym programs, summer playgrounds/camps, adult leagues, and concert series.
Monitor varied recreation administrative duties such as registration, fee collection, etc. Verify that fees are collected properly, forms are completed properly and turned in promptly.
Provide information to the public on the programs. Monitor program activities through participation review and photography.
Assist in varying levels with the supervision and management of the Apple Valley Family Aquatic Center, Redwood Pool, Apple Valley Senior and Event Center, Hayes Arena, Sports Arena, Valleywood Golf Course, and Apple Valley Community Center as needed.
Assist staff liaison with Freedom Days July 4th events. (Attend meetings before and after, plus assist with the day-of duties).
Recommend the purchase of equipment and supplies needed to carry out the above programs.
Interview and recommend hiring of staff as necessary. Provide direction and evaluation of said staff.
Fill in for recreational leaders as needed (including, but not limited to, providing supervision and discipline for children in recreation programs to ensure their safety).
Provide Recreation Supervisors with information on programs on a timely basis. Prepare reports of expenditures, revenues, participants etc.
Performs other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position, as apparent or assigned.Must be at least 18 years of age.
Experience with recreational programs, events, and facilities.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and promote recreational activities.
Ability to have a flexible work schedule, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Valid driver's license and good driving record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICTIONS:
Internship/practicum required for completing Bachelor's or Master's degree in Parks and Recreation or related field.
Ability and experience working with and relating to people of all ages and backgrounds.
Prior experience working in recreational programs.
Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment. May require travel to various locations.
Primary job functions requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (40 lbs.); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.Accepting applications until position is filled.
