Valley Transit is actively seeking an experienced and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a ParaTransit Coordinator. This critical role is responsible for managing paratransit providers and contracts, performing administrative functions and providing relief for the supervision of on-street operations of the Valley Transit System. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks, and possess strong leadership skills. The position works under the direction of the Assistant General Manager
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manages paratransit service operations including operational and safety audits and ride checks and review of data accumulated in paratransit database. Prepares reports for use in billing and ridership reporting.
- Monitors paratransit contracts for operational compliance and expiration.
- Develops policies, procedures and operating practices for paratransit services and ensures they are observed in daily operations.
- Acts as the point of contact for paratransit providers including troubleshooting problems between Valley Transit, customers and contractors.
- Coordinates responses and resolution of customer inquiries and complaints.
- Liaison with Advocacy Coalition and other paratransit-related groups.
- Provides oversight of the contract for ADA certification. Coordinates appeals process. Oversees client certification files.
- Assists in answering public inquiries regarding paratransit services and resolves passenger complaint.
- Assists in developing and processing ancillary paratransit request for proposal's (RFP's).
- Assists with presentation of contracts to Transit Commission for approval.
- Manages relationship with paratransit funders and works with AGM to develop and promote more efficient and effective means to provide the services to users.
- Maintains necessary statistical information.
- Functions as a relief Operations Supervisor
- Monitors employee attendance according to guidelines and reports variances to appropriate supervisor.
- Process all vacation, FML, and schedule change requests.
- Monitors employee pay progression and prepares forms for rate/status adjustments.
- Maintains departmental personnel and medical files.
- Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required.
- Maintains working relationships with municipal departments, schools, community organizations, suppliers and local industries regarding transit operations.
- Performs and coordinates special projects as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
- Knowledge of operating procedures and practices of public transit systems – both fixed route and paratransit.
- Knowledge of the driver controls, basic mechanical features and handling characteristics of various transit vehicles.
- Ability to monitor and supervise on-street operations of a public transit system.
- Ability to assist in establishing and enforcing operating policies and procedures.
- Ability to assist in the training of bus drivers. Ability to supervise and assist in evaluating the performance of subordinate personnel.
- Ability to respond to passenger complaints and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with personnel within and outside the organization.
- Experience working with ADA issues related to transit.
- Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act as it relates to transit.
- Ability to manage workload effectively including planning, organizing, prioritizing, attention to details and multi-tasking.
- Ability to use sound, professional judgment in decision making and problem solving.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate information, define problems, identify potential solutions, develop implementation strategies and evaluate outcomes.
- Possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the P endorsement and a Federal Medical Card.
