What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal - Dance Assistant Instructor position at City of Appleton?
- Assist the instructor in teaching youth dance or acrobatic classes
- Ability to instruct and demonstrate the fundamentals of hip hop, acrobatics, jazz, ballet, and tap
- Be a positive role model for students
- Assist in the preparation of class curriculum, choreography and content
- Work with instructor to prepare students for end of program dance recital
- Manage and maintain equipment required for class
- Conduct class with proper student discipline and enthusiasm for dance
- Use safety techniques to properly instruct students
- Communicate with lead instructor and/or supervisor regarding any student/parent issues
- Effectively instruct and maintain a safe learning atmosphere
- Create a welcoming environment for participants
- Attends staff meetings
- Accurately complete paperwork required (timesheet, accident forms, etc)
Must be at least fifteen years of age.
Education: Must have completed at least one year of high school (Program/Activity Leader I)
Experience: Knowledge and/or background of the specific program, program related experience/training required
- Knowledge of the principles and skills of dance
- Two or more years of dance training preferred
- Ability to teach preschool through high school age children
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the public and to do so in a professional manner
- Strong oral communication skills
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR
- Shall wear Unity Dance & Acrobatics uniform per the City of Appleton dress code
- Adhere to the City of Appleton and Parks and Recreation Department policies and procedures
Program: Dance & Acrobatics
Work Location: City Center Studios
Time Frame:
September - May: Must be available anytime from 4:00 - 9:00 pm Monday through Thursday and Saturday mornings from 8:30am - 12:00pm
June - July: Must be available from 3:00pm - 9:00 pm Monday through Thursday.
Hours: Up to 15 hours per week (hours and days of the week may vary.)
