What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal - Pickleball Instructor (Recreation/Sports Instructor II) position at City of Appleton?
The pickleball instructor will lead one or more of our introductory summer pickleball camps and clinics. Pickleball camp/clinic instructors should have a basic working knowledge of the fundamental skills of pickleball. They will be skilled at translating and delivering those fundamentals to a variety of audiences. Successful instructors will have the ability to engage and gain trust with young children, their parents, as well as pickleball playing adults. Their confident instruction will progressively help participants develop confidence and enthusiasm for the sport. |
- Attend a paid staff meeting(s) prior to the start of each camp or clinic.
- Set up camp or clinic location with equipment and communicate roles with other staff prior to the start of camp or clinic.
- Greet participants and parents as they arrive for camp.
- Instruct children in pickleball through demonstrations, drills, games, and scrimmages in an enthusiastic and energetic manner.
- Contact participants in the event of camp/clinic cancellations and reschedule classes.
- Complete timecards and submit weekly.
- Develop and improvise camp/clinic curriculum and content if needed.
- Be a role model for the camp participants by displaying proper sportsmanship.
- Wear Parks and Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code.
- Work closely with the Parks, Recreation and Facilities Management staff to ensure all department rules and policies are observed and enforced.
- Maintain a safe equipment and play environment.
- Knowledge of First Aid and CPR
- Knowledge of a variety of pickleball and the ability to demonstrate basic skills of the game to children.
- Previous work experience interacting and instructing pickleball to a variety of age levels.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Recreation Coordinator, fellow employees, participants, and the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively with children and adults.
- Adhere to and implement the City of Appleton and Departmental policies and procedures.
Work Schedule:
Camps/Clinics will take place during a variety of times and days.
Some Saturdays 8:30-11:30 a.m.
Some Tuesday afternoons 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Some Tuesday and Thursday evenings 5 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Positions will be between 10-20 hours per week.
Work Location: Parks and Recreation office, Appleton Memorial Park, Telulah Park, and potentially other city parks.
