SUMMARY

The Equipment Servicer, Equipment Mechanic I and Equipment Mechanic II positions work in the Operations Division of the Public Works Department and are responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing City-owned vehicles and equipment including automobiles, pickups, heavy-duty trucks, street sweepers, backhoes, excavators, tractors, lawn mowers, etc. The three positions in the Mechanics job category provide opportunities for increased responsibilities and pay, with promotions to higher roles available based on qualifications and certifications.

Equipment Servicer

Two (2) years of specialized training in automotive and/or equipment systems repair at an accredited trade school or college; or two (2) years of experience in the maintenance, servicing, and repair of motor vehicles and equipment; or a combination of training and experience;

Within 12 months of hire:

  • Residency within 30 minutes of Astoria city limits.
  • A minimum Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brakes endorsement (training provided)
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE)G-1 Auto Maintenance and Light Repair and Medium-Heavy Truck Certification - T-8 Preventive Maintenance Inspection certifications
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification F1 - Maintenance, Inspection, and Testing of Fire Apparatus

$24.04 - 29.22/hour

Equipment Mechanic I

Two years or more progressively responsible mechanical and equipment repair experience, or any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties.

Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications:

  • A1 - Engine Repair
  • A4 - Suspension & Steering
  • A5 - Brakes
  • T4 - Brakes
  • T5 - Suspension & Steering

Within 6 months of hire:

  • Possession of a Class A Oregon Commercial Driver's License with air brakes endorsement (training provided)

Within 12 months of hire:

  • Residency within 30 minutes of Astoria city limits.
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician Certificates F2 - Design & Performance Standards of Fire Apparatus and L1 - Law Enforcement Vehicle Installation

$25.28 - 30.73/hour

Equipment Mechanic II

Five years or more progressively responsible mechanical and equipment repair experience, or any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties.

Possession of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications:

  • A6 - Electrical/Electronic Systems
  • A8 - Engine Performance
  • T2 - Diesel Engines
  • T6 - Electrical/ Electronic Systems
  • L1 - Advanced Engine Performance Specialist

Within 6 months of hire:

  • Possession of a Class A Oregon Commercial Driver's License with air brakes endorsement (training provided)

Within 12 months of hire:

  • Residency within 30 minutes of Astoria city limits
  • Emergency Vehicle Technician Certificates F3 - Fire Pumps & Accessories and
  • F4 - Fire Apparatus Electrical Systems

$29.37 - 35.70/hour

BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIREMENTS

  1. Possession of a valid driver's license and safe driving record;
  2. Ability to pass a background check including checks of Criminal, Social Security Trace, Sex Offender Registry and Motor Vehicle records; and
  3. Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

This position is represented by a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
