Athens City Prosecutor
The Office of the Athens City Law Director is accepting applications for the position of Athens City Prosecutor. This role serves the community of Athens by prosecuting misdemeanor offenses in the Athens County Municipal Court. The Athens City Prosecutor is responsible for overseeing cases from arraignment and pre-trial through motion hearings, trials, jury trials, and appeals. This position is ideal for professionals who value public service and seek to positively impact the community while also supporting a healthy work/life balance. Salary is $74,000 or higher, based on experience. This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. The position may also be eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF). Work Hours are generally 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with an option to work from home one day per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and prosecute misdemeanor cases throughout all stages of the criminal justice system, including interviewing officers, attorneys, and witnesses, and preparing cases for trial.
- Prepare law enforcement officers and other individuals for trial and complete necessary documentation.
- Advise law enforcement agencies on legal procedures.
- Respond to public inquiries and provide legal advice as needed.
- Research and draft complex legal documents.
- Coordinate various projects and assume additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professionalism and high integrity.
- Familiarity with Matrix and Court View systems is a plus.
