The City of Athens is currently hiring a full-time Income Tax Administrator. Under direction of the Auditor, the Income Tax Administrator performs the daily operations of the Income Tax Department, in connection with bookkeeping work involving the application of accounting methods in the keeping of fiscal records for the Income Tax Department for the City. This is an appointed position, exempt from Civil Service competition, which requires a six-month probationary period. This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standard Act.

              

This is a full-time position with a regular work schedule of Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. This position is in Pay Grade 6 with a starting hourly rate of $25.08 per hour. JOB DUTIES:


  •  Administers the City Tax Ordinance and Transient Guest Tax Ordinance
  •  Handles daily deposits or receipts, balancing, and reconciling accounts on a daily basis; initiating and follow-through on new accounts, formatting new forms as required
  •  Performs auditing of income tax returns and forms
  •  Assembles, tabulates, and compares income tax data
  •  Prepares tax returns for taxpayers and processes cash deposits
  •  Reconciles accounts and processes delinquent notices including subpoena processing
  •  Provides detailed information for tax payers and accountants
  •  Open, sort, and data entry of incoming daily mail
  •  Post, assemble, tabulate, and compare income tax data monthly and annually as needed
  •  Maintains city wide postage machine
  •  Attends conferences to acquire further knowledge of income tax updates
  • Attends annual software trainings.
  • Collection of delinquent accounts
  • Collaboration with the Law Director’s office to bring delinquent accounts into compliance
  • Occasional travel and participation in municipal income tax conferences
  •  Assumes other responsibilities, performs other related duties, as needed

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS & QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Meet the attendance requirements of the position.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of municipal income tax record keeping and bookkeeping, including public administration.
  • Knowledge of business English, Math and modern office policies and procedures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to organize work priorities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
  • Exceptional Customer Service skills.
  • Strong ability to use standard business software and applications.
  • Excel & Word Proficient.
  • Strong ability to multi-task.
  • Able to manage stress effectively.
  • Banking experience is a plus.
  • Document scanning experience is a plus.
  • Associates degree in Business/ Accounting or related field or    related work experience.
  • Completion of income tax education courses.
  •  Two or more years of relevant work experience.
