Lead Lifeguard
The City of Athens is currently hiring Lead Lifeguards for the 2024 season. This is a seasonal position expected to last about 120 days and is covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. The starting pay rate is $14 per hour. The City of Athens will cover the costs of necessary certifications. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Job Summary:
The Lead lifeguard oversees daily shifts at the Athens City Pool to include supervision of staff, programs, and operations. The daily operation includes but is not limited to: open swim times, lap swimming, learn to swim program, parties/special events, and aqua aerobics.
Responsibilities:
- Handle patron complaints and issues.
- Assists with scheduling and completing timesheets for lifeguard staff.
- Reports to the Program Specialist for Parks and Recreation.
- Maintain all required records concerning maintenance, pool chemistry, daily logs, first-aid/incident reports.
- Supervises lifeguard staff, ensures rotations are adhered to, monitors breaks for minors, and helps maintain a respectful workplace environment.
- Troubleshoot pump room and equipment issues.
- Report any problems or incidents to Program Specialist for Parks and Recreation.
- Oversee daily cleaning of the facility including: locker rooms/restrooms, deck surfaces, trash/recycling, and pool vacuuming.
- Backwashing of pool, safe handling of chemicals, adjusting chemical levels to maintain a safe water chemistry.
- Assist with purchasing and ordering necessary items.

Required Qualifications & Specifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Previous experience either as a lifeguard or manager required
- Must have reasonable weekend availability.
Preferred:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) Certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days after hire date.
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certified or ability to obtain certification within 30 days after hire date.
- Experience with salt water chlorine generators
- Knowledge of Perlite coated filtration systems
- Previous use of CivicRec registration software or similar
- Use of scheduling software (Digiquatics or Sling)
- Water Safety Instructor Trainer
- Previous experience overseeing multiple bodies of water on one site including slides and spray pad features
