JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision from the Water Production Superintendent and/or Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator, this position performs a variety of complex technical and manual tasks in the operations and maintenance of a surface water treatment facility, multiple ground water production facilities, and water storage facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
· Must have a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
· Two (2) or more years of experience in water treatment operation is required.
· At a minimum,
Special Qualifications:
· Must possess a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class "C" Surface water Operator license prior to employment offer and able to obtain a Class “C” Groundwater Operator License within six (6) months from date of hire.
· Must have a valid class “C” Texas driver's license and driving record must be in compliance with city policy.
· Must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background checks (including criminal history).
· New employees shall be offered positions according to an individual’s
qualifications. Existing Operators will be promoted as their qualifications change to meet position requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are limited to, the following:
· Knowledge of the principles and practices applied in the operation and maintenance of water treatment equipment and machinery.
· Must be able to operate tractors, dump trucks, hand-operated valves and other equipment.
· Must be able to read, write and communicate, computer proficiency.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Operate assigned water production plant, chemical and unit process such as disinfection, coagulation, filtration, and pumping; perform inspections of water treatment plants and facilities;
· Ensure the proper health/safety level of city water through testing of water samples; apply and monitor chemical levels as needed to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements;
· Initiate appropriate corrective action in the event of water treatment process malfunctions;
· Operate various types of equipment essential for testing of water samples; maintain test equipment between uses;
· Maintain records of water tests, chemical levels and usage; determine the proper rate or mix of chemicals based on test results and regulatory guidelines; complete applicable regulatory documentation and paperwork;
· Perform a variety of tasks related to the maintenance of both wells and plant operating areas;
· Maintain inventory and issue chemicals and equipment; coordinate the requisition of needed supplies;
· Follow all departmental, city and state regulations for chemical levels as it relates to safety guidelines;
· Prepare and handle visits in reference to reports as required, including but not limited to; daily work orders and reports; monthly reports, equipment repair lists. Assist those contacted in the course of duty in an effective, efficient, and professional manner;
· Perform a variety of task related to grounds/landscape maintenance, including but not limited to operating a variety of mowing equipment, and small equipment used in grounds maintenance;
· Assist other coworkers as needed.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical conditions: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing and walking for extended periods of time; moderate and heavy lifting and carrying which includes the ability to lift up to one hundred (100) pounds; ability to distinguish colors; must be able to operate assigned vehicle.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Working conditions include Outdoor environments; exposure to extremes in weather conditions; slippery, wet and uneven terrain; exposure to vibrations and noise; exposure to dust and fumes from motorized equipment; subject to inhalation and absorption through skin of toxic chemicals.
