General Description and Classification Standards
The Director of Stakeholder Engagement and Communications serves as a key advisor and strategist, responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive engagement and communication plans that foster meaningful connections between Councilmember Matt Westmoreland’s office, stakeholders, and the broader community. This position requires strong communication skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to build partnerships with diverse communities and organizations to achieve the Councilmember’s policy and legislative goals.

Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders (neighborhood associations, Neighborhood Planning Unit), city, county, and state partners, civic and faith based organizations, local businesses, and advocacy groups.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for community concerns, inquiries, and feedback.
- Attend, organize, and sometimes lead community meetings to facilitate open communication between the Council office and the public.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and address community priorities and concerns.
- Develop and implement an engagement tracking process to capture participation, needs, concerns, opportunities to measure and determine effectiveness.
- Implement, manage and grow the Council office database. This will be used to target and enhance stakeholder communications and engagement.
Strategic Communications
- Develop and execute a strategic communications plan to enhance the visibility and transparency of the Council office’s work.
- Oversee the creation of a Council office newsletter, email outreach and other communication materials.
- Craft clear, compelling messaging to explain legislative actions, policy priorities, and initiatives that align to the Council office’s goals.
Digital and Social Media Management
- Manage the Councilmember's official social media accounts and digital presence, ensuring consistent branding and messaging.
- Develop and implement social media campaigns to increase public awareness of key initiatives through the use of a content blueprint where the KPI’s can be measured.
- Monitor social media channels for public sentiment and respond appropriately to comments or concerns.
- Implement a monthly reporting process that tracks and analyzes engagement and overall optimization to meet ROI goals.
Policy and Legislative Support
- Collaborate with the Councilmember and team to ensure alignment between communication strategies and legislative goals.
- Research and analyze policy issues to provide insights for public-facing messaging.
- Draft talking points and that includes background information for community events.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Develop an office ambassador/intern program. Supervise the ambassador/interns that will be supporting stakeholder engagement and communications work.
- Foster a collaborative work environment within the Council office and with external partners.
