Salary Range : $43,920.23 to $73,164.67 annually
General Description and Classification Standards
The Investigator Specialist is a key function in the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department (AFRD). They evaluate judgments based on the application of statutory or regulatory provisions and administrative procedures in making a determination as to whether there is reasonable cause to support a finding(s) or make objective recommendations regarding resolutions and appropriate remedies to resolve cases. The Investigator Specialist also provides investigation support to community prosecution by collaborating with city departments, partners, communities and citizens; and has the knowledge and skills to provide guidance and clarification on the rules, regulations and other legal requirement applicable to the agency's jurisdiction.
Supervision Received
Individual works under general supervision and reports to the AFRD's designee(s).
RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for conducting difficult investigations which support criminal and administrative, traffic, code enforcement case prosecution and diversion programs and community prosecution.
- Responsible for researching and collecting archive data relative to case outcome on past defendants.
- Required to perform law enforcement duties to include but not limited to investigations of criminal, traffic, code enforcement, and community prosecution cases.
- Responsible for assessing, analyzing and drawing conclusions from investigative evidence; and presenting the findings and deficiencies to superiors and / or the appropriate assistant solicitor.
- Assists in field investigations and provides general guidance, clarification, and use of application to less experience personnel on reporting investigations.
- Uses available technology and its application to gather evidence as cases develop.
- Values teamwork and demonstrates the willingness to assist others to complete work assignments. Conducts, assists, and attends training, workshops, seminars, meetings and events which may occur outside normal hours of operation.
- Stay current on Professional Development, attend trainings, workshops, seminars, meetings and events which may occur outside normal hours of operation.
- Provides law enforcement support and leads specialized law enforcement initiatives and details for the department.
- Serves as lead finger-print technician for the Department and Municipal Court; and conducts background checks for current and new-hire employees.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that may provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
Must have a Peace Officer Standards Training (POST) certification.
Preferred Education & Experience
Advance training in any of the following fields is preferred :
Internal Affairs Investigations | Interviews & Interrogations | Background Investigations | Report Writing | DUI Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Certification and Supervision.
Licensures and Certifications
Must have and maintain a Valid Georgia Driver's License Must have and maintain Georgia POST Peace Officer Certification or the equivalent from another state
Must obtain and maintain Security and Awareness Training Certificate
