General Description and Classification Standards
Performs revenue audits to ensure that billing and revenue from business licenses and taxes have been accurately computed and paid. This is an experienced, professional level capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the profession with limited guidance or review. Could be the only professional in this specialty in a work group. Supervision Received Performs work under general supervision with review and advice from manager or a senior level professional.

Duties :
- Conducts internal financial, system and / or field audits and risk assessments focused on revenue to ensure that billing and revenue from business licenses and excise taxes have been accurately computed and paid.
- Review tax returns and other financial documents to validate reported revenues for occupational tax and excise tax purposes.
- Conduct audits related to excise taxes in compliance with City Ordinance.
Responsibilities :
Reviews and validates compliance with City contracts by customers utilizing the City's right of ways or other services.Develops written audit reports to communicate audit findings with auditees, management, and regulatory compliance agencies, if applicable and makes recommendations as appropriate.Tests documents, financial and computer system records for information system integrity and transaction accuracy.Performs Revenue compliance work related to Customer Tax Audits, Multiyear and final close audits to ensure accurate reporting of Customer Gross Receipts.Performs account reconciliations of customer accounts requesting Amendments or Final closes.Assist with providing guidance and assistance to fellow revenue auditors.Reports discrepancies and ensures compliance with established internal control procedures by examining records, reports, operating practices, and documentation.Prepares audit plans and understands the specific issues to be evaluated.Executes internal audits within established business controls.Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements.Sustains internal control systems by updating and recommending new policies and procedures.Supports internal customers not limited to management and city attorneys.Maintains professional and technical knowledge.Performs work under general supervision with review and advice from manager or a senior level professional.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Applies City and state policies and regulations to resolve variety of issues. Skill in use of computer and Microsoft Office software and other accounting software and databases. Ability to spot inconsistencies and other forms of activity that would generate audit exceptions.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).Minimum of 3 years' of work experience in accounting.Preferred Education & Experience
Working knowledge of audit, corporate taxes, finance, and accountingKnowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures (GAAP)Knowledge of city and state policies and regulations to resolve variety of tax issues.Proficiency in ITS (Gentax) softwareSkill in use of computer and other accounting software and databasesKnowledge of financial records, including but not limited to, federal and state tax returns, financial and bank statements.Ability to identify discrepancies and other forms of activity that would generate audit exceptions.Ability to perform audit engagements.Proficiency in both oral and written communicationProficiency in Microsoft Office SuiteMinimum of 4 years of work experience in accounting or related field.Municipal government experience.Master's degree in accounting, finance, or businessProfessional designation in auditing, accounting and / or government accounting / finance.Licensures and Certifications
