Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has set forth a bold goal - make Atlanta the best city in the country to raise a child. To accomplish this goal, we know that we must increase meaningful opportunities and remove barriers for youth, their households, and their communities immediately, and we must ensure that every Atlanta neighborhood is safe, healthy, connected, and thriving. This work is spearheaded by the Mayor's Office of Policy, led by his Chief Policy Officer and Senior Advisor, Courtney English. This team includes Senior Advisors to the Mayor leading broad, high-impact portfolios essential to strengthening Atlanta's neighborhoods, including affordable housing, youth development and education, neighborhood ombuds, strategic partnerships and strategic initiatives, and place-based community development strategy. Mayor Dickens now seeks to add a new Senior Advisor to this team - one charged with leading neighborhood community revitalization and resident inclusion.
The Senior Advisor for Community Revitalization will work closely with their colleagues in the Mayor's Office of Policy and across the administration to equitably and swiftly implement the Mayor's place-based neighborhood revitalization strategy. This Senior Advisor is an expert community developer with extensive, proven experience in racial equity, economic mobility, resident inclusion, neighborhood revitalization, public administration, public-private partnerships, and public finance. They have demonstrated success in leading large-scale, highly complex initiatives in high-stakes, often ambiguous, and resource-constrained environments. Housed within the Mayor's Office of Policy (Office of the Chief Policy Officer), this position reports directly to the Chief Policy Officer and Senior Advisor to the Mayor.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Senior Advisor to the Mayor, Community Revitalization, will work to advance the Mayor's goals for catalytic revitalization of target disinvested neighborhoods across Atlanta. The Senior Advisor is responsible for leading this initiative, including overseeing project implementation, ensuring the progress and completion of capital projects, building community ownership, and managing key stakeholder relationships. The Senior Advisor must be a master facilitator, working collaboratively and swiftly across multiple departments, agencies, and sectors. A key component of the work is supporting the engagement of numerous working groups that focus the efforts of City departments, external agencies, non-profit and philanthropic organizations, development partners, and neighborhood leaders to implement the program in accordance with community goals.
Supervision Received
This position reports to the Chief Policy Officer and Senior Advisor to the Mayor. Direction received is general and focuses on end results and the implementation of the vision, goals, and objectives of the Mayor. This position requires a fully seasoned, executive-level leader.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Senior Advisor's key responsibilities will include :
- Lead the implementation of the high-priority, cross-functional place-based neighborhood revitalization strategy
- Build an internal organizational framework and approach to strategy implementation that ensures regular, proactive, and strategic integration of broad mayoral priorities, maximizes community impact, and fully integrates racial equity and community inclusion.
- Guide the design, implementation, and evaluation of cross-functional initiatives involving multiple City departments and agencies, overseeing working groups, developing and approving project plans and project managers, and tracking collaborative progress.
- Serve as an expert resource for key internal leaders whose departments are critical implementers of strategy components (e.g., Commissioner of City Planning, Commissioner of Transportation, etc.)
- Serve as external spokesperson and surrogate for the Mayor and the Chief Policy Officer relating to this work
- Oversee a small team responsible for maintaining master project management / tracking system for all major projects, programs, and initiatives contained within the strategy
- Support other high-priority mayoral programs and initiatives as needed by supplying a unique perspective and familiarity with the perspectives of stakeholder served by the team's initiatives and using it to evaluate other programs and policies.
- Develop and implement authentic, frequent community and resident engagement strategies, in and surrounding target neighborhoods, in collaboration with key stakeholders
- Manage the ongoing implementation of the initiative's comprehensive communications plan, in collaboration with key stakeholders
Leadership Provided
Supervises Community Revitalization Division within the Mayor's Office of Policy. Currently, that division includes two full-time staff roles, a Policy Director and the Bowen Choice Neighborhood Program Manager. Also serves as a member of the Chief Policy Officer's senior team, collaboratively responsible for building synergy and cohesion among the various initiatives and divisions. Facilitates "dotted line" oversight and working relationships with key internal and external initiative teams, such as the Department of City Planning's Office of Housing and Community Development or local community partner organization ("community quarterback") teams.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience - Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate or equivalent experience in public policy, urban planning, community development, public administration, or related field
10 years of progressive experience in a related field.
Education and Experience - Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in public policy, urban planning, community development, public administration, or related field (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).
15 years of progressive experience in a related field, including 3 or more years of supervisory experience.
Possess Valid Georgia driver's license
Essential Capabilities and Work Environment
The candidate will work both from home and in provided office space, will attend meetings both remotely and in person as appropriate, and will travel to community meetings in the evenings as required.
