Assistant Superintendent of Operations
Pay Range: $86,600-$116,775 Annually
Full-time Position (35 hours per week)
The City of Attleboro seeks an Assistant Superintendent for Operations for Public Works, who under the direction of the Superintendent of Public Works performs varied technical, administrative and supervisory work concerning the planning, directing and managing of construction projects in the department.
Assists in the preparation, plotting and drafting of plans for construction projects.
Inspects various public works construction projects for surface drainage and roadway rebuilding. Inspects drainage and roadway construction in approved subdivisions.
Assists in the preparation and planning for street cleaning operations and pavement markings. Inspects work for compliance with standards or instructions or for contract compliance. Assists in administrative tasks in Superintendent’s office, which may include street opening permits, chapter 90 reimbursements, ordering of supplies, payment of invoices and other duties as directed by the Superintendent. Inspects all street-paving projects. Assists the Superintendent in the supervision of employees and utilization of equipment; evaluation of different methods of performing work and preparation of bid specifications. Provides information to the public and represents the superintendent at meetings. Participates in the City’s snow and ice program.
Requires an Associate’s degree in civil engineering or related field and/or eight or more years of municipal engineering experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or public administration or related field is preferred. Requires knowledge of materials, methods and techniques relative to public works projects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. General knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and surveying. Ability to perform precise survey work. Knowledge of design, construction, and inspection problems commonly encountered in municipal-related engineering projects.
