Position Details
The City of Auburn's Public Works & Parks Maintenance divisions are establishing an eligible list for Maintenance Worker I which will be used to fill future vacancies.There are no immediate vacancies.This job announcement is open continuously and will generate an eligibility list to fill future vacancies throughout 2025.
Note:If you have applied and did not pass the Mechanical Aptitude Test within the last six months, there is no need to reapply, as applicants can only retest after that timeframe. If you have already taken and passed the mechanical aptitude test (within the last 6 months) and are currently on the eligibility list, you do not need to reapply. Each eligibility list remains valid for up to six months.
Salary scale shown is minimum pay rate prior to the 2% CDL premium, and the maximum pay rate including premium pay and highest longevity pay, applicable only after 20 years of service.
The staff hired into this position will be brought in atStep 1of the 6-step scale, which is $5097.98 month (~$29.41/hour).
This position is represented by Teamsters Local Union No. 117, and the current Collective Bargaining Agreement is effective 1/1/23 - 12/31/25.
Selection Process

Some primary duties include
- Operating and/or driving various equipment and machineryincluding but not limited to: pickups, one-yard loaders or less, tractors and implements, sign truck, pipe pusher, rollers, jackhammers, air compressors, concrete saws, chains saws, all mowers except tractor mowers used to cut rights-of-way, blowers, leaf machines, hand equipment, chippers, small power equipment, generators, sprayers and spreaders, forklifts, and V Box sanders.
- Being responsible for the operation of dump trucks; paint trucks; and/or a combination of a single vehiclewith a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 26,000 pounds, a trailer with a GVWR of more than 10,000 pounds if the gross weight rating of the combined vehicle(s) is more than 26,000 pounds, a vehicle designed to transport 16 or more persons (including the driver), or any size vehicle which carries placarding amounts of hazardous materials.
- Performingminor mechanical repairson such equipment.
- Ordering materials, and interfacing with sales personnel and vendors.
- Initiating work ordersand repair orders and maintaining accurate records of time and materials used in work.
- Interacting courteouslywith other employees, utility customers, vendors and the public.
- Correctly and safely operating all equipment and toolsused in assigned division.
We are looking for candidates who have
- AHigh SchoolDiploma or equivalent;AND
- One (1) yearof full-time, paid related work experience;AND
- A valid driver's license without impending loss at time of appointment.
- If necessary for assigned work, an employee will be required to obtain and maintain a Public Pesticide Operator's license, DSHS Water Supply Certification, First Aid Certification, Flagging Certification, Forklift Certification and/or Defensive Driving Certification, or other required certification or license.
