What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at City of Auburn?
This position is represented by Teamsters Local Union No. 117, and the current Collective Bargaining Agreement is effective 1/1/23 - 12/31/25.
January 1, 2025: 3% increase
This is routine custodial and minor repair maintenance work while cleaning, caring for and maintaining City facilities and buildings. The regular work schedule for this position is: Wednesday – Sunday 4:30 pm - 1:00 am.

*Performs assigned duties and tasks independently as scheduled or directed to established cleaning methods and standards without direct supervision
*Deals tactfully and courteously with the public, coworkers, and other City employees, occasionally in difficult customer service situations.
*Cleans, disinfects and deodorizes restroom floors, toilets, urinals, walls, partitions, mirrors, fixtures and showers; deodorizes floor drains as required; checks and refills all soap, paper towel and toilet paper dispensers and restocks supplies.
*Vacuums carpets in meeting rooms, offices, hallways and council chambers.
*Spot cleans where necessary.
*Shampoos carpets according to maintenance schedule. Vacuums upholstered furniture as required.We are looking for candidates who have:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent; AND
- One (1) year of professional custodial work; AND
- A valid driver's license without impending loss at time of appointment.
REQUIRED LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to pass a background check, to include reference checks.
This position will be required to be fingerprinted and complete the CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) Security Certification Test to be allowed to view sensitive information and have unescorted access while at the Police Department (per Washington State Patrol ACCESS unit).
