The City of Auburn Legal department represents the City in its day-to-day operations. The legal Department is located at the Auburn City Hall building and consists of four divisions: Civil, Prosecution, Real estate and the City Clerk's office.
The Department is looking to add a talented new temporary Legal Assistant to the criminal division of our team. In this position, you will perform work involving a variety of tasks, including prosecution support, record maintenance, direct public service, and administrative/clerical functions.
Our ideal candidate has clerical and administrative support skills, providing excellent service to internal and external customers, and has experience in a law office, court and/or municipal setting.
In this role you will:
- Maintain files on all current court cases, including gathering necessary information from the Police Department and courts, and organizing files within the department.
- Build, prepare, maintain, and retrieve case files for court calendars. You'll enter case activity into case files accurately and timely, respond to discovery requests, and prepare and issue subpoenas.
- Prepare correspondence for attorney's review and signatures.
- Answer department telephones and interact with the public offering appropriate assistance.
- Document conversations with case participants, including victims, defendants, attorneys or attorneys' offices, courts, agencies, and any other substantive conversations.
- Assisting Prosecutors with trial preparation, including locating and obtaining discovery items.
- File documents with the court.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent
- Three (3) years of related office/court experience and advanced computer skills
- Any combination of education, experience, and training that can demonstrate the ability to successfully perform the primary responsibilities for this position
- Valid WA State driver's license.
We would LOVE it if you had...
- A degree or certificate in paralegal studies
- Experience in court and/or a municipal setting
- Experience working with JABS, and other file/case management software or another electronic filing system.
