What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wastewater Plant Operator/Industrial Pretreatment Coordinator position at City Of Auburndale?
MAJOR FUNCTIONS: This is responsible technical work involving the daily operation and maintenance of the City of Auburndale Wastewater Treatment Facilities. Pre-treatment responsibilities will involve conducting inspections of industrial manufacturing and pre-treatment facilities to ensure protection of the City’s wastewater collection system, personnel, and environment. Work is performed under the supervision of the Utility Plant Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Performs routine lab analysis (e.g., sampling and analyzing) and implements process control changes to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements; sludge disposal; wastewater line maintenance and repair; minor equipment repair and maintenance; and facility maintenance and landscaping. Administers the Pre-treatment program. Inspects and investigates industrial waste control, pre-treatment and treatment facilities of industrial and commercial firms to determine the nature of business, the wastewater generating process, and the magnitude, type and strength of wastes produced. Collects samples and measures flows from the industrial wastewater discharges. Analyzes the adequacy of the wastewater pre-treatment processes, determines compliance and legal requirement, discuss violations with firm’s management, and seek corrections. Responsible for issuing permits, performs inspections and if required prepares enforcement actions. Maintains records and writes reports. Performs other non-essential duties as required. This position requires the applicant to be able to work all shifts/schedules as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of wastewater treatment facility operation and maintenance techniques, landscaping equipment operation and occupational hazards. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees is essential. Graduation from High School or GED and one (1) year experience in wastewater treatment plant operations and maintenance is required. Applicants must have a valid Florida D.E.P. Class “C” Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certification. Must have, or be able to obtain FWPCOA Industrial Pre-treatment Operator Certification within 180 days. Must have a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License (Class B) or must obtain within 90 days.

WORK SCHEDULE: Shift work and weekends required.
HIRING RATE: $43,728 Annually 6% Assignment Pay for Pre-treatment responsibilities
