Minimum Qualifications
Education and / or Equivalent Experience :
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus four (4) years of experience in a related field.
- Experience may substitute for education up to a maximum of four (4) years.
- Completion of an accredited automotive, diesel or related certification program may substitute for required experience up to a maximum of six (6) months. An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field may substitute for experience, up to a maximum of two (2) years.

The Fleet Equipment Technician III will perform maintenance and complex repairs on various systems on a diverse fleet with different types of vehicles and equipment to include after hours call-outs for breakdowns and repairs.
The location and work schedule of this position may include day and evening hours, weekends and holidays as well as being on a rotational On-Call schedule that may require the technician to return to work and or perform repairs in the field.
This has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a City-designated emergency, Essential Employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees and ensure the continuity of essential operations. In such an emergency, Essential Employees may be called back in, may be required to modify their schedule, may be assigned to a City-designated work site, or may be retained on site to assist with operations and recovery.

Driving Requirement : This position requires a Class "C" driver's license or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
This position requires a license for the operation of commercial vehicles in the state of Texas within one hundred twenty (120) days of employment. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite .
