Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent plus four (4) years of experience working in in an automotive or equipment services environment engaging/interacting as a liaison between the customer and organization.
- Combination of equivalent experience and education may substitute for the minimum qualifications.
Licenses or Certifications:
- Requires a Class C driver’s license.
- May be required to obtain an appropriate Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 120 days of employment with the City.

Driving Requirement: These positions require a license for the operation of commercial vehicles in the state of Texas within one hundred twenty (120) days of employment. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin’s Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

Pay Range
$27.41 – $33.30
Hours
- Monday – Friday, work hours to be determined
- May be required to work weekends, overtime, and nights and during bad weather events

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working with various tools and diagnostic equipment in the automotive technology area
- Master ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification or other industry-recognized certification (e.g., EVT, CAFS, etc.), or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of employment.
- Experience managing on-site vehicle/equipment inventory and maintaining fleet information systems
- Experience providing direct customer service and coordinating with vendors in a customer-facing role
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, and Outlook
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Triages vehicle/equipment problems and determines need for vehicle repair through visual inspection.
- Creates itemized work order for repair/maintenance/service and verification of work order charges for payment processing.
- Determines need and coordinates with outside vendors for parts and services.
- Communicates vehicle repair needs and time required to customers.
- Monitors work status and communicates with customers, user department and service center personnel regarding status of work.
- Communicates with customers to determine the nature of mechanical problems.
- Coordinates and schedules repair/maintenance/service with other departments/fleet liaisons.
- Ensures and facilitates road service, wrecker service and/or tire repair and maintains wrecker and service call logs.
- Manages on-site vehicle/equipment inventory and ensures all vehicles/equipment have an associated work order in fleet information management system.
- Maintains and produces vehicle and equipment repair reports as needed.
- Analyzes data for workflow efficiencies and enhancing customer service strategies.
- Other related duties may be assigned.
