The Street & Drainage Operations Supervisor works in the Transportation & Public Works Department, District Maintenance Division. The primary role of this position is to supervise daily operations for work-groups in the Street & Bridge Operations Division. This includes overseeing both proactive and reactive right-of-way ( ROW ) work, managing operations to address urgent issues like damaged infrastructure and debris, while also coordinating scheduled maintenance and improvement projects to ensure the ROW remains safe, functional, and compliant with regulations.
A key responsibility is leading emergency response efforts during critical incidents, ensuring rapid action to mitigate public safety hazards. The Street and Drainage Supervisor plans, prioritizes, and schedules work, efficiently allocating resources to balance immediate needs with long-term objectives. The role requires collaboration with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders, with a strong focus on safety, efficiency, and high-quality service. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential for achieving successful operations and supporting the mission of "maintaining infrastructure to keep Austin moving."
Essential Employee :
This has been designated as an Essential Employee position. In the event of a City-designated emergency, Essential Employees provide services that impact the public health, safety, utility services, and welfare of members of the Austin community and other employees and ensure the continuity of essential operations. In such an emergency, Essential Employees may be called back in, may be required to modify their schedule, may be assigned to a City-designated work site, or may be retained on site to assist with operations and recovery.

90 Day Provision for Additional Vacancy :
If the same or an additional vacancy occurs within the Public Works Department in the same job title within 90 days after the start date of the top candidate, the additional position may be offered to another top candidate from the same candidate pool. This may include filling other vacancies with the same job title in other division / work locations within the City of Austin Public Works Department. Decisions on assigned selection may be made at the time of hire based on the business needs of the department.

Driving :
This position requires a Texas Operator Driver's License or the ability to acquire one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite . To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.
Criminal Background Check ( CBI ) : This position will require a Criminal Background Investigation ( CBI ).
