Description
The City of Aventura is recruiting for the position of Police Service Aide in the Aventura Police Department.
Police Service Aides provide non-enforcement support services for the department which allows sworn police officers more time to perform law enforcement activities. Performs a variety of routine clerical, logistical support, and administrative work in support of law enforcement activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
Investigates and renders assistance at scene of vehicular accidents. Interviews witnesses and drivers. Preserves evidence. Summons ambulances and other law enforcement vehicles. Takes measurements and draws diagrams of scene.
Participates in investigating traffic violations and crash scenes occurring within the jurisdiction, obtaining evidences and compiling information regarding these incidents, preparing cases for filing of charges, and related activities.
Conducts preliminary investigations of non-violent or property crimes and vehicle crashes committed during assigned shift. Seeks out and questions victim and witnesses. Develops leads and tips. Searches scene of crimes for clues. Analyzes and evaluates evidence. Prepares cases for giving testimony and testifies in court proceedings.
Undertakes limited community oriented police work; and assists citizens with such matters as locked or stalled vehicles, crime prevention, drug abuse resistance education, traffic safety, traffic direction, etc.
Directs traffic at accident scenes, construction sites or areas of congestion.
Coordinates activities with other officers or other City departments as needed. Exchanges information with officers in other law enforcement agencies.
Assists in the preparation of a variety of reports and records including origin of incident reports, officer's Daily Log, reports of investigation, bad check form, vehicle impoundment form, traffic hazard report, etc.
Checks daily logs for police activity.
Records and files citations.
Writes reports as required.
Enters data into the CAD / Record Management system, enters data into the computer, and generates a variety of law enforcement management system reports.
Broadcasts information to officers in the field as needed.
Provides a variety of police related information to the public and governmental agencies.
Delivers and picks up packages & correspondence and shuttles vehicles to and from repair shops or wherever required.
Receives incoming calls, determines nature and urgency of calls, and coordinates appropriate response.
Receives requests from officers on call for special or specific information; follows up with appropriate information and relays the same back to the officer.
Composes a variety of correspondence, reports and other materials requiring independent judgment as to content, accuracy and completeness.
Establishes and maintains records using moderately independent judgment.
Relieves communication personnel.
Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary.
