Job Description

The City of Avondale is currently seeking a Family Advocacy Center Prevention Coordinator to join the Police Department. This is a FLSA exempt, full-time position with benefits.

Researches, designs, implements, and measures community awareness and prevention education impact based on the program's goals. Responsible for collaborating with community leaders, law enforcement, and staff to deliver prevention education programs to target audiences.

Essential Functions

Identifies community awareness prevention education needs and works with staff to develop program resources and funding to fill these needs.

Evaluates, designs, and implements current programs. Researches prevention programs and community awareness education programs that best fit the needs of the community and the advocacy center.

Develops strategic relationships with community stakeholders, organizations serving children, sports organizations, faith-based organizations, and educational institutions to host events and raise awareness of child abuse, domestic violence, and elderly abuse.

Markets and promotes prevention awareness, education opportunities, and prevention materials to the community. Creates new content and updates and maintains the advocacy center website and social media platforms.

Develops program evaluation structure to determine effectiveness continuously. Ensures completion of targeted program goals. Develops data collection methods to show evidence of program effectiveness. Adjusts program structure, delivery, and target audience as needed.

Works with various training programs and subject matter experts to coordinate training for law enforcement and other staff members. Record, maintain, and train staff and partners on the use of the database and program forms.

Research, prepare, and analyze a variety of data, reports, procedures, and forms. Assists with data reporting for grant reports and various funding opportunities.

Handles various special projects and assignments and provides temporary coverage for various positions as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. Master's degree in Education or a related field preferred.

Two (2) years of experience working in an advocacy center focused on evidence-based prevention programming, conducting needs assessments, child development, or managing projects.

A valid Arizona Operator's Driver's License or the ability to obtain one by the time of hire.

Must be able to successfully pass a comprehensive background check and a psychological exam.

Supplemental Information

Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern written work instructions, review a wide variety of written and electronic materials at arm's length or less (distinguish letters and numbers), and see in detail objects or printed material at greater than arm's length.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

High-level ability to communicate through written documents professionally and effectively. Ability to write reports, lesson plans, training curriculum, and summaries.

Ability to interpret, research, or analyze an assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms. Ability to apply reason to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.

Ability to build and maintain relationships on a professional basis with diverse populations (staff, children, adults, and the community). Excellent time management skills with the ability to remain flexible and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines. Ability to handle stressful situations. Ability to be a self-starter and be able to function independently of others. Ability to be flexible with work schedule.

Employee must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner is required.

The Avondale Police Department will automatically disqualify any individual that has at any time :

  • Been convicted of a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in Arizona.
  • Been dishonorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces.
  • Been previously denied certified status or has his or her current certified status revoked or under suspension.
  • Illegally sold, produced, cultivated, or transported marijuana for sale.
  • Illegally used marijuana for any purpose within the past three years.
  • Illegally used marijuana while employed by a law enforcement agency.
  • Illegally used dangerous drugs or narcotics while employed by a law enforcement agency.
  • Illegally sold, produced, cultivated, or transported for sale any dangerous drugs or narcotics.
  • Illegally used dangerous drugs or narcotics, other than marijuana, for any purpose within the past seven years.

Examples include : Cocaine, Crack, Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth or speed of any kind), Hallucinogens including mushrooms, Anabolic Steroids (after 1994), except prescriptions only or FDA approved over the counter preparations.

  • Illegally used marijuana, dangerous drugs or narcotics other than for experimentation. The use of an illegal drug is presumed NOT to be for experimentation if :
  • The use of marijuana exceeds a total of 20 times or exceeds 5 times since the age of 21.

    The use of dangerous drugs or narcotics, other than marijuana, exceeds a total of 5 times or exceeds one time since the age of 21.

  • Had a pattern of abusing prescription medications.
  • Been convicted or adjudged to have violated traffic regulations governing the movement of vehicles with such a frequency so as to indicated disrespect for traffic laws and a disregard for the safety of other persons on the highway within the past three years.
  • Had your Arizona driver's license suspended as a result of excessive traffic violations or any other act that would automatically suspend your driver's license or received a suspended driver's license from any other state as a result of similar circumstances.
  • Been previously employed as a law enforcement agent and since has committed or violated a federal, state, or city law pertaining to criminal activity.
  • Been convicted of any crime under a domestic violence statute.
  • Lied during any stage of the hiring process.
  • Falsified his or her Background Questionnaire or Application.
  • DISCRETIONARY DISQUALIFIERS

    The Avondale Police Department may, upon review, make any individual ineligible that has at any time :

  • Had alcohol or substance misuse and / or abuse.
  • Had unlawful sexual conduct.
  • Had excessive traffic violations.
  • Had commission of a felony.
  • Had any discharge from the United States Armed Forces other than an honorable discharge.
  • Had a pattern of failing to meet financial obligations.
  • Had any other conduct or pattern of conduct that would tend to disrupt, diminish, or otherwise jeopardize public trust in the law enforcement profession.
  • Had an inability to perform the essential functions of a position.
