The City of Avondale has an opportunity for a Librarian II in the Parks, Recreation & Libraries Department. This is a FLSA exempt, full-time position with benefits.
We’re seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join our team as a Librarian II. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to lead, train, and supervise staff and volunteers while assisting the Branch Manager with daily operations, collection maintenance, and staff coordination. You’ll also manage community outreach efforts and oversee mobile library services. Additionally, you will play a key role in planning and executing library programs, including budget management and staff supervision, while contributing to collection development and cataloging. You’ll provide excellent customer service, run engaging programs, and support overall library operations. When needed, you’ll step into the Branch Manager role and demonstrate your leadership skills. Assists the Librarian III with:
Establishing, evaluating, and revising branch goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
Implementing, monitoring, compiling, and reporting statistical summaries of strategic initiatives.
Monitoring the branch budget for staffing and supplies.
Preparing and conducting regular staff meetings.
Overseeing maintenance, safety, and security of the branch.

- Bachelor’s degree required or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Three (3) years of progressive experience in library services and in library programming.
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Planning includes coordinating tasks, events, programs, staff schedules, and preparing budgets.
- Demonstrates experience working with diverse high-needs populations and has knowledge of and experience working with local community stakeholders, volunteers, and community-based organizations.
- Comprehend and make inferences from written material and verbal and/or written instructions. Produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar.
- Bilingual speaking skills (Spanish) preferred.
Must be flexible, and able to handle multiple competing projects, priorities, and tasks.
Demonstrate superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, and efficiency.
Strong interpersonal and oral skills. The ability to exercise tact and diplomacy during difficult conversations and when resolving conflict.
Intermediate knowledge of PCs in a Windows environment including comfort using MS Suite, Office 365 Cloud Suite, and presentation software. Experience using social media to research and promote programs and activities.

Works more than forty hours in a workweek without additional compensation to perform assigned job duties, including weekends, evenings, early morning hours, and holidays as required.

Working with various state and federal agencies may also be required of the employee. Vendors and suppliers may also be called upon for information on purchases, supplies, or products. Meetings and discussions may be conducted with customers, brokers, and sales representatives. The employee must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
