The City of Avondale has an opportunity for a Parks Maintenance Supervisor in the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department. This is a FLSA exempt, full-time position with benefits.
Oversees the maintenance, operations, and management of public parks, open spaces, trails, cemetery, and other city properties. Performs landscaping, project management, and facility design reviews. Manages and maintains the division's maintenance contracts. Assists in preparing and managing the parks maintenance budget. Leads, trains, and evaluates performance of full-time and part-time department personnel. Provides input on capital improvement projects and grant applications. Manages the establishment and maintenance of urban trees/forestry, sports fields, and irrigation systems. Respond to park-related emergencies.Supervises employees and coordinates personnel-related activities including, but not limited to, training, approving work schedules, recommending/approving personnel actions, coaching and counseling, conducting meetings, establishing performance goals, and conducting performance evaluations.
Assists in developing divisional policies and procedures, performance measures, and protocols. Supervises maintenance operations and resource allocations.
Monitors work sites to ensure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to and that the work zones and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
Oversees the maintenance contracts related to projects, services, and vendors. Ensures compliance with city policies and requirements while maintaining efficient workflows and fostering positive vendor relationships.
Provides direct support in purchasing materials and supplies for the day-to-day operation which includes appropriate procurement processes and procedures, sound estimating and budget preparation, and assuring supplies and materials are available as needed.
Maintains records and inventory of materials and equipment needed to complete the functions of the division. Ensures that City procurement procedures are being followed and ensures that necessary contracts are in place for all material and equipment purchases, and service contracts.
Administers division budgets by projecting annual operating costs, preparing budget requests, and monitoring divisional expenditures.
Responds to customer complaints and answers service questions by assisting customers in person, on the telephone or corresponding via e-mail to address the complaint or concern to resolve issues.
Develops, implements, and administers divisional policies and procedures, performance measures, emergency and after hours call-out protocols, safety procedures and specifications for equipment used in the various operations.High School diploma or GED required.
Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Public or Business Administration, Recreation Management, or a related field is preferred.
Following certifications preferred: ISA Certified Arborist, Certified Spray Technician, and Certified Parks and Recreation Professional.
Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) at time of hire or ability to acquire within first six months of employment.
Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification upon hire.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, and/or related construction field.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience supervising/leading crews or overseeing projects.
Requires valid Arizona Driver's License. Background check.
Salary : $78,835 - $118,253
