What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Engineering Technician position at City of Avondale?
The City of Avondale has an opportunity for a Senior Engineering Technician in the Engineering Department. This is a FLSA non-exempt, full-time position with benefits.

Provide computer-aided mapping and data attribution of parcels, streets, easements, and public utilities into the Geographic Information System (GIS). Perform a full range of technical engineering support, including providing engineering information to contractors, developers, and the general public.Plan review and quantity estimate to calculate permit cost for work within City right-of-way. Communicates fees and requirements to external and internal customers.
Perform routine Computer Aided Design (CAD) drafting maps and plans including conceptual design, preparing survey exhibits, right-of-way, public utility maps, street maintenance, and paving maps.
Ensures complete data attributes of parcels, addresses and utilities are entered into the GIS, utilizing ArcGIS, ArcView and other tools. Prepares special project maps and exhibits. Prepare maps for Council Reports and/or public meetings.
Review As-Built construction plans for compliance with City requirements.
Maintain and update engineering database records of drawings, land, and utility record maps utilizing CAD tools and other computer software. Geo-code the locations of As-Built drawings.
Research drawing files for the location of utilities and ensure accuracy of drawings and assist with placement on Quarter section maps. Provide existing utility locations to internal and external customers. Issue permits for utilities (water, sewer, cable, electric, and gas) and Right-of-Way driveway access. Prepare information for response to public record requests.Associate's degree in related field or any equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may qualify.
Three (3) years of experience in engineering or GIS field.
Valid Arizona Class D Driver’s License.Work requires the ability to read and interpret construction documents. Majority of job tasks involve obtaining information from various types of construction documents.
Work requires the ability to perform Trigonometry and Algebra to analyze quantities for material takeoffs and estimates. Some analyses require knowledge of calculus.
Work requires the ability to prepare documentation for various types of reports including design plan review status update reports, permits status reports, dedicated infrastructure reports and staff reports for agenda items at committees and city council meetings.
Record and archive storage and retrieval process. Ability to multitask and prioritize assigned work.
Prepares documents and conducts research to justify language used in department documents, including scope of work and estimate costs, work hours, permit fees, etc. May recommend budget allocations.
Analyze, interpret specifications, and coordinate with other engineers, contractors, developers, surveyors, and others with minimal direction. Follow established standard operating procedures and/or policies.
There is constant exchange of information with customers (internal and external). These contacts may involve similar work units or departments within the City which may be involved in decision making or providing approval or decision-making authority for purchases or projects. In addition, these incumbents work with individuals outside the City who may belong to professional or peer organizations. Working with various state and federal agencies may be required. Vendors and suppliers may be called upon for information on purchases, supplies, or products. Meetings and discussions may be conducted with customers, brokers, and sales representatives. Employee must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
