The Community Resources Department is currently seeking two(2) Part-Time Bus Drivers!

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under limited supervision, safely and efficiently drives a van or bus to transport passengers; performs routine maintenance on vehicles operated; performs related duties as required.
- Drives bus over an assigned route in accordance with a time schedule.
- Assists the disabled or senior citizens including those on wheelchairs, to board and exit from the vehicle and from the vehicle to their destination; safely secures wheelchairs in van/bus; assists passengers in carrying packages.
- Prepares daily reports of passenger loads and accidents.
- Completes pre-trip check of mechanical condition including: gas, oil, tires, belts; fuels vehicles; cleans the inside and outside of assigned vehicle; maintains records of vehicle maintenance.
- Operates two-way mobile bus radio in accordance with established operating rules and procedures.
Education and/or Experience
Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance. Example combinations include graduation from high school or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in para-transit service.
Licenses and Certifications
Possession of a Class B California driver's license with Passenger endorsements. Must not have any restrictions on the weight of vehicle permitted to drive or the number of passengers permitted to carry.
Must maintain a Class B California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Possession of a valid medical certificate.
Possession of or ability to obtain within six months of appointment valid First Aid and CPR certificates.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge
Considerable knowledge of state and local traffic laws, and speed limits
Safe driving practices and features of the bus, provisions of the California Motor Vehicle code.
Ability
Skill in the operation of a passenger van or bus in all types of weather and road conditions.
Read and interpret street maps
Make decisions and act quickly in potentially hazardous situations
Maintain accurate records.
Assist the elderly or disabled in getting in and out of vehicles
Safely secure wheelchairs by utilizing proper tie-down methods.
Administer CPR and first aid
Follow oral and written directions.
Communicate concisely and effectively over a two-way radio
Maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Check oil, gas, brakes.
Clean the inside and outside of vehicles.
Learn the basic operating mechanics of the vehicle in order to detect mechanical problems.
Special Requirements
- THIS POSITION IS SUBJECT TO MANDATORY DRUG AND ALCOHOL TESTING PURSUANT TO FEDERAL TRANSIT ADMINISTRATION REGULATIONS.
Open Availability to work alternate shifts, including weekends.
- Position requires sitting for long periods of time.
- Occasional standing, walking on uneven and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movements above and below shoulder level in performance of daily duties.
- The position requires both near and far vision when driving and operating assigned equipment and acute hearing is required when providing face-to-face service.
- The need to lift, carry, pull and push tools, supplies and other equipment weighing up to 25 pounds is also required.
- Additionally, the incumbent may be required to respond to after-hours emergency call-outs. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.
