Description
Step 1: Enroll in a Lifeguard Pre-Assessment online at bakersfieldcity.us. Pre-registration is required. Pre-assessment requirements: participants are required to complete a 300 yard swim test, a 10 lb. brick test, and must be able to tread water for 2 minutes.

A1: Saturday, March 8th at 3:30p.m.A2: Monday, March 17th at 7:15p.m.A3: Friday, April 11th at 4:30 p.m.
Step 2: Upon completion of Pre-Assessment enroll in an upcoming Lifeguard Academy and apply online for the Lifeguard position at www.bakersfieldcity.us. Must attend entire course selected. BLENDED WATERPARK LIFEGUARD COURSE (#14599)A1: March 15th - 16th & 22nd - 23rdA2: March 29th – 30th & April 5th – 6thA3: April 14th – 17th Step 3: Successfully complete the Lifeguard Academy and become eligible for the Lifeguard position. *Lifeguard participants who successfully pass the academy, but decline employment or are not hired by the City may still receive certifications, but must pay the Community Rate of $215.

Representative Duties
- Oversee the prevention of aquatic incidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct of guests at the pools
- Participate as an aquatic team member in handling pool emergencies
- Teach aquatic classes (Swim Lessons and/or Swim Team and Junior Lifeguarding) according to the American Red Cross guidelines
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age (work permit required for high school students)
- Must possess a current American Red Cross Waterpark Lifeguard certification
- Must possess a current CPR/First Aid for Public Safety Personnel/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
- Must be able to work varied hours
- HIGHLY DESIRABLE: Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification
Examination (Weighted: 100%)
