SALARY RANGE: $42,401.00 - $50,154.00 Annually
BACKGROUND CHECK
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening and must be successfully completed.
PROBATION
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.
ELIGIBILITY
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
EDUCATION ACCREDITATION
Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
CLASS DESCRIPTION
A Community Health Educator I participates in conducting community health education and promotion programs. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.
Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work may be performed in an office, community facility or school where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion.
SELECTION PROCESS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have a bachelor's degree in public or community health education from an accredited college or university.
OR
NOTES (EQUIVALENCIES): A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience performing community health education; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods of community health education.
  • Knowledge of individual and group behavior.
  • Knowledge of community group and organization dynamics.
  • Skill, in certain designated positions, in speaking, translating, reading and writing a non-English language utilizing specific established rules pertaining to such factors as spelling in letters or characters in a Latin or non-Latin-based alphabet or writing system, word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, pronunciation, punctuation and other related language mechanics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
EXAMINATION PROCESS
