BACKGROUND CHECK

PROBATION
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.
ELIGIBILITY
Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
EDUCATION ACCREDITATION
Applicants’ education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.
CLASS DEFINITION
A Control System Operator Supervisor oversees and participates in the work of others engaged in monitoring system operations, documenting and reporting system and equipment malfunctions. Work of this class involves supervising traffic control system operator personnel.
Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical supervisor. Employees in this class are responsible for overseeing all shifts of a 24/7 operation and therefore may work a rotating shift which may include evenings, weekends and holidays and as required for emergencies and special events. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion.
SELECTION PROCESS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:
EDUCATION: Have a high school diploma or possession of a GED certificate.
AND
EXPERIENCE: Have
three years of experience monitoring traffic control display screens and initiating responses to correct traffic signal malfunctions or override or adjust traffic signal timing plans, one year of which must have been assigning and reviewing the work of others.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the practices and protocols of standard computerized operations.
- Knowledge of a traffic control system environment.
- Knowledge of basic cable hook-ups for electronic office equipment.
- Skill in operating computer terminals and keyboards.
- Ability to exercise sound judgement.
- Ability to comprehend, implement, recommend changes to and ensure compliance with written specifications, protocols, standard operating procedures and oral instructions.
- Ability to train others.
- Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with other employees and the general public.
- Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing.
- Hand-eye coordination; spatial orientation.
- Ability to develop and ensure maintenance of a record and file system.
- Supervisory ability.
